Network and credential requirements
Besides a license, Smart Polling needs network access to target devices and credentials with the correct permissions to poll them.
Network access
The Arc sensor or Guardian must have network access to the devices you want to poll, and firewalls must allow the required traffic. Some devices also need a corresponding service or protocol enabled before Smart Polling can reach them, for example enabling WinRM on a Windows host or simple network management protocol (SNMP) on a network device.
Each strategy in Strategies lists the ports and any device-side configuration it requires.
Credentials and permissions
Some strategies require credentials with the correct scope to access target devices. Store and manage these credentials in Credentials Manager:
- If you use Guardian or Central Management Console (CMC), find it under .
- If you use Vantage, find it under .
- If you use an Arc sensor, its credentials are managed from whichever upstream product manages that sensor: Guardian, CMC, or Vantage.
Each strategy in Strategies specifies the credential scope it requires.
