Expand a disk on a virtual machine

The monitoring scope of your sensor will dictate the size requirements of your virtual hard drive. Do this procedure to adjust the size of the virtual hard drive.

Before you begin

Edit your virtual machine (VM) settings from the hypervisor.
Important:
The open virtual appliance (OVA) and VHDX images are built with minimum disk size and are not suitable for production deployments. If your hypervisor supports it, expand the disk before you start the VM. For more details see Virtual machine sizing.

Procedure

  1. From the hypervisor settings, expand the VM disk to the correct size for your monitoring scope.
  2. Restart the VM.
  3. Log in to the VM.
  4. To go to privileged mode, enter this command:
    enable-me
You can now perform system changes.
  5. To run data enlarge, enter this command:
    data_enlarge
The virtual machine can now detect the newly allocated space.
