Protocols, Smart Polling, and Arc

A list of the improvements for Protocols, Smart Polling and Arc that have been introduced in this release.

  • Improved the robustness of the Mitsubishi Electric Melsoft protocol tagging.
  • Introduced a rate limiter for core Nozomi Networks Operating System (N2OS) process with respect to database operations; the latter will be distributed over time to avoid spikes on system resources for postgres. The feature is disabled by default and intended only in scenarios where traffic causes heavy use of the postgres database over small periods of time.
  • Introduced support for the Ovation project eXtensible Markup Language (XML) files generated by the System Registration Tool. Extracted information includes asset identification, hotfixes and installed software.
  • Improved detection of assets via records in mDNS protocol.
  • The automatic deployment implementation on Windows using the Windows Remote Management (WinRM) strategy has been simplified and no longer relies on server message block (SMB). Domain accounts can now be used for automatic deployment.
  • Improved the robustness of the handling of concurrent file transfer protocol (FTP) connections in N2OS intrusion detection system (IDS).
  • By default, the Garbage Collector is instructed to delete assets having private media access control (MAC) addresses with a lower threshold. To configure this behavior, see Configure Garbage Collector.
  • Improved the performance of the packet capturing threads.
  • Enforced the maximum size of variable history ensuring that the average history size is around the specified value.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Arc from being successfully deployed on Windows versions that have no English language installed.
  • N2OS now supports project file import for Ovation networks. The import works for nodes that already have a label identified and corresponding to the one from the project file. The functionality enriches:
    • Vendor
    • Product Name
    • Serial Number
    • OS
    • FW
    • Installed software
    • Hotfixes
    • Ovation-specific hotfixes
    • Hardware components, and
    • Redundancy partner information
  • Improved the consistency of the assignment of nodes to sessions for highly dynamic networks.
  • Added support for the Thrift protocol.
  • Improved the parsing of Emerson Ovation packets improving the asset identification process.
  • The Garbage Collector baseline refers to the last_activity of the most recent node.
  • Improved the retrieval of system resources by N2OS processes to provide accurate autoscaling.
  • Improved the robustness of the command-line interface (CLI) against various types of spurious separators.
  • Improved the consistency of the information of nodes and assets with Arc installed in very dynamic environment.
  • Addressed an issue that caused the deletion of Smart Polling plans to use too much memory and causing N2OS instability.
  • The user interface (UI) will now state if a graph is empty if no links for a node or asset are present.
  • Introduced support for XML parsing in Lua for Scriptable Protocols via xml2lua.
  • Expanded MTConnect traffic monitoring capabilities to extract MTConnect assets, dedicated asset properties, process variables, and instancing nested CNC assets communicating with main MTConnect.
