Information Object Addresses

An Information Object Address (IOA) is a unique identifier used in IEC 60870-5-101 and IEC 60870-5-104 protocols to specify individual data points, such as sensors or actuators, within a telecontrol system. The IOA format can vary and is configurable, typically appearing as either a 1-byte–2-byte or a 1-byte–1-byte–1-byte structure, depending on the system requirements.
