Log files
Log files are produced to help you with troubleshooting. The Arc installation method, and the execution mode, will affect the name and location of the logs files.
Location
On Linux, the install location is: /usr/local/sbin/arc.linux.[architecture]/logs
On macOS, the install location is: /usr/local/sbin/arc.darwin.[architecture]/logs
On Windows, the install location is: C:\Program Files\NozomiNetworks\Arc\logs
If Arc is run from a different directory, for example in Offline or One-shot mode, the log folder is always created in the same location as the Arc executable.
Log name
When the log file is created in Service mode, the log file will have the name: arc_service.log.txt
When the log file is created in One-shot or Offline mode, the log file will have the name: arc.log.txt
- setup.log: covers Arc's initialization process, before the Arc configuration has been loaded and applied
- sp.log.txt: covers Smart Polling activity
- compliance_scc.log.txt: covers Compliance scan activity
Verbosity
The configured log level applies to these log files (including their archived, numbered versions):
- arc.log.txt
- arc_service.log.txt
- sp.log.txt
It doesn't apply to setup.log
compliance_scc.log.txt is different: it is written only when
the log level is set to Debug, and produces no output at any
other level.
setup.log covers Arc's initialization process, which happens
before the Arc configuration is loaded and applied. For this reason, very few log
lines might be logged in Info mode before Arc is able to load and
apply the configuration.
For more details about the log level setting, see Other.
Limits
The maximum file size of a log is 10 MB. Once this limit is reached, the log file is
archived with a numerical suffix, such as arc.log.txt.1
This will continue up to arc.log.txt.9
After this, rotation is applied, and the .1 suffix is used again. A
maximum of nine archived logs are retained.
